FLAVOUR UP YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE AT ORIENTAL BISTRO

“No love is sincerer than the love for food” and this quest for the best took me to one of the fine dining restaurants of Guwahati – Oriental Bistro.

Looking rather inconspicuous on the busy GS Road in Guwahati, Oriental Bistro has quietly etched out its name as one of the finest restaurants serving Chinese, Thai and Japanese cuisine. As you step in through the front doors, the exclusive feel takes you to another level. Established in 2018, Oriental Bistro is a perfect place for a great dining experience – be it with family, friends or colleagues or hosting a party. The restaurant carries a classic look that demands a certain respect and a certain dignity.

Once inside, I do a quick scan of the premises – theme based lightings, decorated walls, flags on the roofs, a few Buddha statues and a bar counter making the place chic in the aristocratic sense.

Ambience
I quickly settled down and hoped over the menu card; it had all from dumplings, to dimsums, to sushi and a large spread of main course, followed by variety of desserts. Without giving a second thought, I called on the manager to savour some of their signature dishes.

As they say, a three-course meal begins with a starter, I began with Thai Basil Chicken. Spicy, with a mouthwatering balance of savory and sweet, it is a quick stir-fry that will fill your kitchen with the hunger-inducing aromas of caramelized garlic and basil; the sauce actually acts like a glaze as the chicken mixture cooks over high heat. Also called ‘Pad Kraprow Gai’ in Thai, it is a street food dish that also happens to be an all-time street favorite.

Next in the table was Chicken Sui Mai Dimsums, a traditional Chinese dumpling, which was later mixed and matched by the Japanese to give it a new taste than the usual pork dumplings. Sui Mai in Japan has Shrimps as the main ingredient. Compared to the Chinese Sui Mai which is usually minced, the meat in Japanese Sui Mai is ground to a paste. The wrapping is a very thin, round sheet of unleavened dough, with a pleat border, so that the filling peeks out of the top of the dumpling when served at the table. A perfect blend of chicken and shrimps, Chicken Sui Mai Dimsum is sure to make you miss it as the plate empties.

Jumping on to my next starter, I ordered Sushi. Though Sushi is not new to Guwahatians but a restaurant serving the best Sushi dish is still a mystery in the city. However, I was soon proved wrong when they treated me with Chicken Sushi. Traditionally made with medium-grain white rice, the Sushi came wrapped in Chicken filling, served with soy sauce. The perfect balance of sweetness, a little sour and the chicken stuffing is sure to make you ask for more.

I was done with the starters and decided to try the main course, which is over 100 different types – both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Confused again with the variety the restaurant offers, I called on the manager again who explained to me the different dishes, a few of which you should really try when you are here at Oriental Bistro. However, I finally ordered Chicken Red Thai Curry and Steamed Rice and later on Chicken Drum Special House Noodles along with Sleeping Pomfret, a must-try dish you just cannot afford to miss. Sleeping Pomfret is a recipe that can satiate your food cravings. The Pomfret fried to perfection and topped off with a sauce of your choice, this main dish recipe is a flavorsome delight for your taste buds. This  is a must try and should be on your list, if you love sea fish.

All well that’s ends well. I signed off with the most popular and famous dessert ‘Sizzling Chocolate Brownie’, a delicious melt-in-mouth dessert where brownie is served on a hot sizzler plate with a scoop of ice cream and topped with chocolate sauce.

All-in-all, Oriental Bistro has been able to keep its promise of serving the best multi-cuisine dishes in Guwahati and has carved a name of its own in the food business.
