HAPPY ‘PET’ PUJA!
“There is no sincerer love than
the love of food,” said George Bernard Shaw.
Finally the days are here when
one forgets all the diet charts and slimming mantras; when the temples are
filled with the aroma of ‘khichuri and labra’ and streets with the aroma of
Biryani and Rolls. Yes, it’s Durga Puja and how can one stay away from food.
Listed down are a few ‘Puja
Special’ dishes you just can’t miss!
LUCHI & CHHOLAR DAL
This is a must dish on the cards
for the bongs. A tempting dish to start the day with! The softness of luchi
(poori) when served with Chholar Dal (split Bengal gram), cooked with grated
coconut and spices, leaves a never ending flavour on your taste buds.
SWEETS
After starting the day on a good
note, it’s time for a sweet dish, but a light one. To make your sweet tooth
sweeter, a Sandesh (less in sugar content) will serve the purpose.
BHOG – KHICHURI, LABDA & PAYESH
How can someone miss this time of
the day? People wait eagerly to consume bhog, which is regarded as an
auspicious dish comprising of Khichuri, Labda, Begun bhaja and the delicious
payesh. Served hot on your plate, this dish will surely make you run for more!
JHAL MURI
Oh, it’s 4 O’ clock by now and
the stomach is craving for some spicy treat. To start the evening, Jhal muri
can be a better option. Mixed well with spices and lemon, jhal muri has been an
all-time-favourite snack.
PUCHKA
Yes, they love to pronounce it
‘puchka’. Bongs and their love for puchka is an open secret now. Served with
tamarind water with a pinch of pudina, this delicacy will surely tickle your
taste buds.
CHOP-CUTLET / KATHI ROLLS / FISH FRY
By 7 pm, it’s time for some
snacks and what can be better than Chop Cutlet, Kathi Rolls or some crispy Fish
Fry. While the ‘Khadyoroshik Bangali’ often feasts on fish fry and mutton
Kabiraji, the Bengali’s obsession with the crumb coated, deep fried delights
takes a whole new meaning during Durga Puja.
Yes, a cup of tea/coffee will be
an added advantage.
BIRIYANI
It’s time for dinner and no dish
fits the bill except Biryani. Be it mutton or chicken, the love for Biryani is
never ending. The aroma in itself will make you crave for it. Juicy tender
piece of mutton/chicken mixed in flavoured rice makes it a mouth-watering
recipe. Also Read: Flavours of India
FLAVOURED PAAN OR ICE CREAM
What can be better than a sweet paan or an ice cream to
end the day? The softness is sure to melt all your
tiredness you experienced though out the day.
